Information on Sexuality Education Programme


Dear P6 Parents / Guardians,

Post PSLE Sexuality Education for the P6 Boys
 
Under the MOE's framework for Sexuality Education in Schools, the key messages of SEd are : 
(i) To build healthy futures for yourself, family and society.
(ii) Healthy relationships based on love and respect are the foundation for strong familes.
(iii) Casual sex can lead to unwanted pregnancies, STIs/HIV and AIDS which can harm and hurt your loved ones.

At ACS(J), the following lessons from the MOE's Growing Year Series will be covered:

 P6 What is happening to me? Pupils will be able to recognize the physical development accompanying puberty in boys. 30 mins
  Why am I stressed?

Pupils will be able to handle the stresses brought about by physical changes associated with puberty.

  What is Love?
Pupils will be able to :
1) understand that infatuation is a normal part of growing up,
2) understand that infatuation is temporary,
3) appreciate different kinds of love and crushes.

Where do I begin?
Pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding that respect is the underlying value for healthy relationships.

Who are you?
Pupils will be able to :
1) understand the need to maintain relationships with people outside the family,
2) differentiate between good and bad strangers or familiar adults.

  Why do I like you? Pupils will be able to :
1) demonstrate understanding that respect is the underlying value for healthy relationships, 
2) demonstrate understanding that idolizing people of the same or opposite sex is normal and is part of growing up.

  Who am I talking to? Pupils will be able to :
1) express their views about information from the internet and be aware of the potential/possible dangers of it,
2) recognize that one does not need to rely on the internet, particularly the MSN or facebook, to make friends.

 The Sexuality Education will be conducted from the 12 Oct 2011 to 14 Oct 2011 at the class level by the School Counsellor and a Team of Trained Teachers. We will be using the resources and lessons provided by MOE in "The Growing Years Series" (Upper Primary Series). Parents can choose to have their son opt out of the Program. The opt-out form duly completed and signed is to be submitted to your son's Form Teacher by Wed 28 Sep 2011. Students who opt-out will be placed under the supervision of another staff member in the library during the periods when the Sexuality Education Program is running in the class.
